Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has either done or considering doing the CAIA? Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst.

I am considering doing this along with my CFA and would like to know some of the below.

1) Are the courses similar in material?
2) How intensive is the study for CAIA Level One.
3) Would you recommend studying both of these together?

I am not looking for a definite answer; just some thoughts would be great.

Cheers,

Hi kiwikai99,

I've thought of doing this too. Personally, I don't think I'd have the strength to study both of them at the same time given that I work fairly long hours and that studying for the CFA also takes a huge portion of my day too.

I think my plan is to complete the CFA and then move on to CAIA as I'm in portfolio management and I feel it'd be beneficial to my work.

All in all, if you're not working, have good deal of time, and are of a studious nature, go ahead and do both!

CAIA is a lot easier to pass, and does not carry the same weight as the CFA designation, at least in part due to its relative newness.
