Hi,
Im a first semester MBA student, with an IT background. I plan on specializing in Corp Finance. I was thinking about doing my CFA level1 some time next year, so when im looking for a finance job after my MBA. i have something more finance specific to show apart from my MBA.

I would like to how handy this would be and also what are a prospects for an MBA with a CFA, espcially since i do not have any relevant finace work experience as of now.

Thanks

I was in similar situation almost four years ago with MBA in Finance except that I wasn't thinking of CFA. I was denied financial analyst jobs as they prefered Bachelors in Finance grads. I later found an IT related job in finance industry and then slowly moved into more of financial role as I gained exp. and licenses.

An answer to this question largely depends factors like-

1.The country one is residing in
2.Previous qualifications/experience/skill-sets,etc
3.Knowledge -about the economy, the markets, the state of mind of the interviewer.
4.References- contacts help u get in quick and easy.

But yes, if one is decent,an opening as a junior analyst/research analyst wont be tough to find.

Try working on ur knowledge-practical instances and application of what you learn in all the study notes must be observed in the papers/news.

Good Luck.

Hi all,

I'm in the same boat. I am considering taking the CFA Level 1 exam this December. I have over 10 years of IT background but none in Finance. Would this be a major obstacle in finding finance related jobs? What should a CFA (assume have passed all 3 exams) with no finance experience expect when he/she first enter the finance world?
Appreciate comments/share of thoughts related to IT-Finance career transition.

I had recently appeared for my CFA exam L1 but failed to my dismay. Can I get a break in the investment banking field?

The main postions of interest are in the area of Finance and Investment and the two major post are:
1. Financial Analyst
2. Investment Associate

I am presently a chartered accountant and I also did a degree in accounting. I am confident that after completing level 1 of CFA my credentials will be greatly enhanced to take up more senior management positions in the area of corporate finance considering my career history in accounting and auditing.

I am a recently qualified accountant with ICAN (www.ican-ngr.org) and ACCA (www.accaglobal.com). I had over 10 years IT experience before moving to Accounting and Finance. I want to embark on CFA, would it be a good idea and what would be my job prospects in the Nigerian, African and European market?

Why too many people go from IT to finance? We dont need all of you. lol
more seriously I think that there is an opportunity for everybody with the CFA, just think about it you can use your IT background to be an analyst in IT related industry. it will be an edge

I am using your study notes and I know of at least 5 other friends of mine who used it and passed the exam last Dec. Keep up your great work!
